Through a practice that encompasses portraits, interiors and landscapes, Dušan Vuksanović explores the power of photography to connect people to the spaces and environments in which they live. Emerging out of an early interest in the unique geography of his native Balkans, his photographic practice is rooted in a desire to explore place and its relationship to individual and collective history and memory. Vuksanovic’s work confronts personal, familiar, and cultural trauma and the power of visibility as a form of empowerment.

Vuksanovic’s portraits are a testament to the transformative power of trust, intimacy, and human connection. By fostering a safe and nurturing environment, he encourages his subjects to share their full selves, capturing moments of raw authenticity and vulnerability.

In his landscapes and interiors, Vuksanovic explores how physical environments shape experiences, relationships, and memories. As an immigrant who moved to the United States at the age of 27, he learned about his adopted country through photographs and through the process of making art. Photography helped to place him, center him, and connect him to the new people and environments that he encountered. For Vuksanovic, photography is a universal and shared language that has shaped his understanding of the world, and more specifically the people and places that have populated his personal history.

After moving to Los Angeles in 2021, he has found inspiration in the contrasts of Southern California, with its expanses of ocean, desert, and wilderness as well as its unique architectural and urban heritage.

Dusan’s commercial work is centered around interiors and portraits. His images have appeared in The World of Interiors, Architectural Digest, New York Times, Grazia, Angeleno, Art Is Alive UK, Washingtonian, The Baltimore Sun, Barista and numerous book projects. He has also shot product photography for showrooms and interior design studios including Blackman Cruz, Atelier MVM, ma+39, Ryan White Design, Roy Hardin Design and others.
